Five years ago, at the age of 58, I decided I wanted to team pen and sort. I bought a horse, joined a couple of associations and off I went. Needless to say, it was a struggle trying to learn how to pen and sort while riding a non-seasoned horse. It became very discouraging.... More about Albert May here. Sonya Buckner & Albert May
"As new riders to sorting and penning, we relied heavily on Brian and Sonya Buckner's guidance and experience in fitting us with horses which would not only help us earn checks; but, would also improve our overall riding.
Each Buckner Cowhorse we have purchased has been sound, athletic and well trained in cutting, sorting and penning.
In addition, we attended a two day Buckner clinic, learning valuable warm-up techniques and strategies.
For anyone interested in pursuing the sports of sorting and penning, we would highly recommend Buckner Cowhorses.

"If you are interested in learning to team pen or ranch sort, or if you already know how (or think you do) you can definitely "step up your game" by attending a Clinic by Brian and Sonya Buckner!
My friends and I attended a Buckner Cow Horse clinic. We ranged in age from 14 to 55 with skill levels from very beginner to advanced novice and above.
We all agreed that Brian did a great job working with us as a group and individually to meet each of our needs. We all came away with horseman- ship skills we did not have when we started. But the main focus was on skills that would help us be more competitive in team penning/sorting, which was our goal. We learned you don't have to have a fancy arena or cows to improve your riding skills or to improve your horse's performance.
We were taught things we could do by ourselves with our horses in our pastures, lot or back yard. Thanks Brian, Sonya, and Shiann!
Sincerely,

Dear Sonya and Brian,
Julie and I would like to thank for you selling us Ducky. She has proven to be everything in a horse that you told us she would be. You guys represented her well and did everything you said you would do. We both felt confident that if there was a problem with the horse, that you would stand behind the sale and make it right if we had problems.
We have given your names to other people looking for horses, in fact Ed Chevalleir bought a horse from you and he has been happy with his purchase. Thanks again for such a good experience and we both feel we have made good friends and we would be happy to recommend you guys to anyone that is interested in buying a horse.
Sincerely,
Bill and Julie Abney

My name is Kevin Ikard, I have been riding horses for around eight years now. I am a competitor in penning and sorting. I attended one of Brian's clinics and throughly enjoyed it.
I was born with cerebral palsy which affects my balance and muscles. Not only did Brian help me find the right horse, he taught me how to improve my riding skills and how to improve my horse's performance.
I just want to say thanks for taking the time to help me and I would recommend Brian to anyone.

You can’t go wrong with a Buckner Cow Horse they are the real deal……..
"The first horse I purchased from Brian Buckner was at the Ultimate Team Penning Challenge in 2005. It was the best Team Penning decision I ever made.
When I stepped up to the next level of horse my team penning became much more enjoyable, and more profitable. Since that time I have purchased many more horses and each one has been a Buckner Cow Horse.
I enjoy doing business with Brian and Sonya they are honest people who stand behind their horses. The Buckner’s will go above and beyond to insure that they are fitting any skill level of competitor to the right horse, and it will be a horse that will elevate the competitor to the next level in the arena.
Team Penning and Ranch Sorting is as tough on a horse as any equine sport, horse’s in our sport have to be good minded, broke to death and great athletes…..Brian and Sonya have the knack for finding, training and seasoning these type ponies.
My family and I have attended a number of the Penning and Sorting clinics that Brian and Sonya have conducted over the past few years, They are good at what they do and they sincerely love teaching the fundamentals of penning and sorting. "

I am a horse trainer and USTPA competitor from Morris Chapel, TN.
I always knew that I wanted a better horse to compete on, but in the beginning of my competitive career I was nervous about investing in a higher quality horse. When I realized I could no longer afford to lose, I went to Brian and Sonya Buckner to help me find the perfect horse to step up my game. That turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made.
A better quality horse allowed me to win more than not, and have the confidence to compete up into classes I normally would have steered away from because of my horse's inabilities. I have since purchased several horses from Brian and Sonya, to personally compete on, or because they had foundations and talent, as a trainer, I wanted to grow and expand on.
On the first horse I bought from Brian and Sonya, a 7 year old gelding named Moose, I won World Champion in the #3 Ranch Sorting at the United States Team Penning World Championships in 2010. From Tunica, to Fort Worth, and places in between, I was consistently competitive and taking home checks. My latest purchase, a mare named Hic With A Badge, won me Reserve World Champion at the 2011 World Chamionship Finals.
Brian and Sonya have always been up front and honest in their disclosures about the horses they represent. One more good reason to go with Buckner Cowhorses is the service after the sale. With each purchase I have made, they have followed up with me to make sure everyone was getting along. Buckner Cowhorses will always be the place I go first when looking for my next performance horse. Wether you are looking for great horses, or exceptional tack and saddles, you can find it all with Buckner Cowhorses.
